Earlier in the year, Oldfield Pre-School applied to The Chester Bluecoat Charity for support of £500 towards a project to improve their outdoor area, which the charity was delighted to be able to provide.

Oldfield Pre-School is an independent, committee run charity that provides early years education to 3 and 4 year olds in the community of Vicars Cross, Great Boughton and the surrounding areas. The children at the pre-school come from a range of different backgrounds, including those who are disadvantaged.  By providing the children with a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment, Oldfield Pre-School helps all pupils develop strong foundations for the next stages of their learning, at school.

In order to be able to continue to provide this outstanding setting, the pre-school sought funding towards a project that will create an inviting, open-air environment not only for their current children, but also to those who will attend over many years to come.

Over the summer holidays, the grant has been used to make the playground more secure for the children by installing fencing and repurposing an unused area of land to extend the space. The extra room means children can now play on trikes and scooters, allowing them to have fun whilst physically developing. An all-weather garden has been created in the additional space which includes large planters, a herb and sensory plant garden and a mud kitchen.

The improved outdoor space will help the children to develop their learning through play, social communication and physical skills. It will also encourage them to be outside, which is hugely beneficial for their well-being and mental health.
