Chester’s oldest charity is looking to transform lives in and around the city by creating new partnerships with organisations in the city and the surrounding area who carry out deserving work. Last year, The Chester Bluecoat Charity, a grant giving charity, awarded local good causes over £240,000 in 2022, and hopes to have a bigger reach and impact in 2023.
The Chester Bluecoat Charity is seeking charities and voluntary organisations whose work supports the disadvantaged and those living in poverty in Chester and the surrounding areas and is particularly keen to hear from those who work with children and young people. The grants can have a huge impact in people’s lives, for example on their education, employment prospects or their mental health
Organisations can apply for strategic funding or small funding. The strategic funding programme provides grants of at least £2,000 to schemes that aim to make a lasting difference in the community over several years, while the small funding offers a single grant of less than £500.
In 2022, The Chester Bluecoat Charity supported a wide range of organisations including KidsBank, Platform for Life, Chapter and Chester Zoo. One person commented that the work funded by The Chester Bluecoat Charity “has been life changing to both me and my family.” The charity has also supported the much loved KidsBank Chester by funding a move to larger premises, which has meant they can extend their reach and services, which KidsBank called “game changing.”
